This book explores the question of Gender-Justice from the viewpoint of the Islamic sources – the Holy Qur’an and the prophetic sunnah – and raises further critical questions concerning the implications of the issue of Gender-Justice for a contemporary understanding of the sharīʿa.
It aims to bridge the gap between the classical exegetical traditions and the modern academic discourse by applying a systematic theological methodology in approaching the Islamic sources, attempting to answer the question, whether Gender-Justice exists from the viewpoint of the Islamic sources, or not.
Some of the questions addressed in this book:
- Does Gender Justice exist in the Islamic Sources?
- Does the Qur’an view gender relations as hierarchical or egalitarian?
- Do women have to obey men?
- What are conceptions of malehood and masculinities in the context of the Prophetic Sunnah?
